Dear Valued Client

At the beginning of each month, we like to keep you informed about what's new with Bonnie Minsky & Nutritional Concepts. As always, have a happy, healthy day!

Why are Healthy, Thirty-Something's Dropping Dead?
--------------------
Magnesium You have heard me talk about magnesium countless times. It is the most important nutrient I recommend. I am creating awareness yet again, because recently, I have heard about too many healthy thirty-somethings, be it family friends, or friends/acquaintences of clients, who have died suddenly engaging in rigorous exercise (basketball and marathons, for example). All of the deaths had a similar theme: cardiac related...reason for death, inconclusive.

February happens to be Heart Health Month, so there is no better time to reiterate the importance of magnesium.

Eat to Live, Not Live to Eat.
--------------------
Every now and then, I need to break out one of my favorite nutritional mantras, "Eat to live, not live to eat." These are certainly words to live by in our "supersized" world.

At the restaurant, when your craving is telling you to eat the couple pieces of bread that you don't need, remember this mantra.

Response to Article on Dietary Supplements.
--------------------
Last week, we read a New York Times article entitled, "Dietary Supplement Safety: Some Disquieting Data." We were shocked to find that such a poorly researched article would come from what is thought to be one of our country's finest newspapers.

Here are the highlights of our letter to the editor.

February Heart Health Sale.
--------------------

Trans-fat Alternatives - Are They Really Healthier?

Cupcake The answer to this question is in the details.

Let's make it as easy as possible.

Recipes du Jour - ALL NEW
--------------------
recipe Once a month, we highlight a recipe from Nutritional Concepts' database or from clients. We welcome your entries by email to nutrocon@aol.com.

Shari's Dreamcoat Salad

8-12 radishes, quartered
(note: if you are salicylate sensitive, have reflux, heartburn, or digestive issues, replace radishes with jicama.)
1 avocado, cubed
1 mango, fresh or frozen equivalent, cubed
1 T. grapeseed oil
1 T. Riesling Vinegar

Instructions: mix all ingredients together and serve immediately or chilled. Serves four. Can be used as a side dish, a salad, or even better...a balanced snack. The healthy fat from avocado and grapeseed oil balance out the radish and mango carb.

announce -Read this announcement in full: Temporarily Replacing UAS Labs DDS-100 Acidophilus.

-While we did not think it possible, Metagenics has improved upon their cutting edge CoQ10 at no extra charge! While utilizing the same patented CoQ10 source, the other ingredients were upgraded to enhance absorption and repel degradation.
  • D-Limonene (replaces vitamin A) - a better antioxidant for preventing the oxidation of CoQ10. Derived from lemon peel extract and additionally, benefits digestion.
  • Medium Chain Triglycerides (replaces rice bran oil) - a slight upgrade as a fat soluble matrix from coconut oil.
  • Turmeric Powder (replaces annatto) - this tiny amount of turmeric is used to color the softgel. Turmeric better opacifies the softgel from light exposure.
  • Zinc Oxide (replaces titanium oxide) - zinc oxide is used because it also better opacifies the softgel from light exposure.
-A phase II trial performed on 48 men with prostate cancer at the Clark Urologic Center at UCLA were given 8 ounces of pomegranate juice daily. Results showed a prolongation of disease stabilization, reduced oxidative state, and 12% decrease in prostate cancer cell proliferation. A double blind, placebo-controlled study began April 2006 to provide a more validated analysis.

On the heels of this study, we discovered that you never have to peel a pomegranate again! Trader Joes now sells pomegranate seeds and they taste amazing.

-Did you know that if you cook pasta al dente (chewy, not soft), it has a lower glycemic index?
