Dear Steve, 

Did you know 
that the last McDonald's cheeseburger to be sold in Iceland before the chain abandoned the country in 2009 has been on open display at the National Museum of Iceland and was recently moved to the Bus Hostel in Reykjavik, "still in good condition," according to the Hostel manager. "Some people have even stolen some of the fries".

Speaking of processed food, our soon-to-be 34 year-old cupcake (pictured above) is still in pretty good condition. Gotta love "Best used by March 19, 1981" on the label!

Cancer Prevention Is More Important Than Ever
British Study Says One of Two Born in 1960 Will Get Cancer.

A new study from British Journal of Cancer says that for people born in 1960, the lifetime risk of developing cancer is 53.5% for men and 47.5% for women. The new estimate replaces the previous figure, which predicted that more than one in three people would develop cancer at some point in their lives.

 

The researchers state that the increase in lifetime risk is primarily because more people are surviving into old age, when cancer is more common. However, compared with people born in 1930, that is an increase of 15% for men and 11% for women.

 

Bonnie: "If people live long enough, then most will get cancer". It does not have to be that way. The truth is, we all have rogue cells in our body. The trick is to keep them from proliferating. We're not doing a good job of it as the numbers show. There's A LOT more we can do to collectively lower cancer risk.

 

Public health measures can and have made a difference, but you need to continue to make your voices heard to lower the toxic load in the environment, be it air, water, or food. More importantly, we need to take care of ourselves first. The researchers said that more than four in ten cancers diagnosed each year can be prevented by changes in lifestyle. We control our own destiny. If we cannot practice better prevention, the cancer percentages will continue to rise for each generation.
