Celebrating 30 Years of
Bringing the Wellness of Tomorrow, Today
March 16, 2015
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW
that according to new study in the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, the sweet spot for vitamin D levels should be between 50 and 100, with 70 being the most preferable level. The research sheds light on the fact that levels below 50 or above 100 both increase the risk of mortality.

While it may surprise you that having a level above 100 can be unhealthy, this is something we have said before. As with low levels of D, uncharacteristically high levels can indicate there is something wrong.

Like with any supplement, you should only take in coordination with a licensed health professional who is knowledgeable with supplements.

Have a happy, healthy day. Steve and Bonnie

Thermogenic Supplement Combo
Steve: Supplements of alpha-lipoic acid, with or without EPA omega-3, may help promote body weight reduction in obese and overweight women on a reduced calorie diet.

Alpha-lipoic acid supplements enhanced body weight reductions in the women, compared to the reduced calorie diet alone, according to a study in the February issue ofObesity. Adding EPA to the supplementation regime was found to counter the reductions in levels of leptin (the satiety hormone) that occur during body weight reduction.

This is not the first study we have seen on Alpha Lipoic Acid for body weight. A dose of between 300-600 mg/day helps promote adenosine production which, in turn, ramps up thermogenesis (turning white fat into brown fat). Alpha-lipoic acid, the most broad-spectrum antioxidant and co-factor for mitochondrial enzymes, has also been found to boost satiety.

Sign Up for a CSA This Spring

Steve: One of the easiest ways to control what kind of food you put on your table is to get to know your local/regional farmers.  Participating in Community-Supported Agriculture is a great thing to do for your piece of mind and the planet's! If you are local, it just so happens that three of our clients have CSA's:

Kingshill Farm - pickup every week on Park Avenue in Glencoe

Sandhill Organics - locations all over Chicagoland and Wisconsin

Turtle Creek Gardens - Illinois and Wisconsin sites

For non-locals, go to localharvest.org to find a CSA near you.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy
One way to thaw out from the deep freeze is to experience Far Infrared Sauna Therapy. We have had one in our office for several years and it does not disappoint.

Aside from the fact that you are taking one hour out of your busy lives to relax, Far Infrared Therapy offers numerous therapeutic benefits, most importantly enhanced detoxification. Many clients use it to relieve painful joints, rev up metabolism, and remove buildup of heavy metals.

A recent study in JAMA Internal Medicine found that increased frequency of sauna bathing reduced the risk of sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and all-cause mortality.
