NCI Well Connect
October 23, 2017
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that AREDS2, most eye doctors' favorite supplement recommendation for eye health, may do more harm than good?

First, most contain dyes (red dye #40 and blue dye #1) which are awful chemicals that have no business being in supplements.

Second, they contain too much zinc (80 mg.). Taking over 50 mg. in supplement form on a regular basis can suppress the immune system as opposed to helping it.

Third, they do not have enough copper to balance the megadose of zinc.

Finally, the formula does not have enough lutein (10 mg.) for anyone with early to late symptoms of macular degeneration. We recommend 20 mg. daily.

Cancer Cells Love Sugar
Bonnie and Steve: Sugar awakens cancer cells.

A nine-year joint research project published in this month's issue of Nature Communications has led to a crucial breakthrough in cancer research. Scientists have clarified how the Warburg effect, a phenomenon in which cancer cells rapidly break down sugars, stimulates tumor growth. This discovery provides evidence for a positive correlation between sugar and cancer, which may have far-reaching impacts on tailor-made diets for cancer patients, but more importantly, legitimizes the need for far reaching public health campaigns about excess sugar intake.

Hyperactive sugar consumption of cancerous cells leads to a vicious cycle of continued stimulation of cancer development and growth.

And there's more...

Healthy people who consume high levels of sugar are at an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

A ground-breaking study from this month's Clinical Science found that a group of healthy men had increased levels of fat in their blood and fat stored in their livers after they had consumed a high sugar diet.

After 12 weeks on a high sugar diet, men with a high level of liver fat, a condition known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), showed changes in their fat metabolism that are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes.

The results also revealed that when the group of healthy men with a low level of liver fat consumed a high amount of sugar, their liver fat increased and their fat metabolism became similar to that of the men with NAFLD.

Takeaway: If you have not done so already, eliminate or severely curtail all added sugars if consumed on a daily basis. This includes beverage sweeteners! Once-in-a-while consumption is perfectly fine.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy

Steve: Traditional saunas emit direct heat. Far Infrared uses light to create heat. Far infrared run at much milder temperatures, but travels much deeper into the body, which is why you sweat more vigorously.

Far Infrared Therapy offers numerous therapeutic benefits, most importantly enhanced detoxification. Many of our clients use it to relieve painful joints, rev up metabolism, and remove buildup of heavy metals.

Far Infrared has shown to draw out 15 to 20% more heavy metals (i.e., mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic), hormone-disrupting chemicals, sulfuric acid, ammonia, uric-acid, and fat-soluble toxins than traditional saunas.

A recent study from Age and Ageing, showed that healthy subjects whose sauna use averaged 4 to 7 times per week were 66% less likely to develop dementia at 20-year follow-up than those who used a sauna once a week. In addition, they had a 65% risk reduction for Alzheimer's Disease.

Recent studies in JAMA Internal Medicine and American Journal of Hypertension found that increased frequency of sauna bathing reduced the risk of sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and all-cause mortality.
