Flu Prevention, Treatment
Bonnie and Steve: Unless you are hiding under a rock, you know that it is a pretty bad year for influenza. Unfortunately, the vaccine is a bad match for this year's most virulent strain. If you need extra motivation for adhering to your optimal wellness habits, preventing or reducing the severity of influenza for you and your family should be all the impetus you need.

  • Diet - reduce simple carbohydrate/added sugar consumption. Drink plenty of sweetener-free beverages. Lower alcohol intake. Increase vegetable and fruit consumption.
  • Supplements - it is really tough to stay optimally healthy without them. See below for details.
  • Sleep - cannot emphasize enough the importance of sleep. It allows you to recharge and regenerate.
  • Exercise - not only does exercise make your intestinal microbiome stronger, it strengthens every part of you down to the cellular level, enhancing your body's ability to fight off unwanted invaders.
  • Hygiene - there is an art to washing your hands properly. It is astounding how few people know how to do it correctly. Here's a refresher if you need it.
  • FOF (Facial-Orifice-Free) - Keep your hands away from your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. The easiest path for bacteria and viruses to enter your body is by your hands when you rub your eyes, touch your nose, itch the inside of your ear, or stick your fingers in your mouth.
Essential Preventive Nutrients
*Dosage is dependent on individual needs.
  • Vitamin A
  • B-Vitamins
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D3
  • Zinc
  • Probiotics (strains for small intestine, large intestine, and mouth/pharynx)
  • Monolaurin
  • Fish/Cod Liver Oil
  • GSE Extract
  • Melatonin (if sleep is an issue)
Adjunct Preventive Therapies
  • Far Infrared Sauna Therapy
  • Balance Body Structure With Chiropractic
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
  • Humidify Your Domicile - Influenza loves dry conditions, which is a reason why it is bad in fall and winter. Keep your home at 25-35% humidity.
Influenza Treatment Considerations
*If you feel something coming on or have influenza.
  • Andrographis
  • Elderberry
  • Glutathione
  • Short-Term, High-Dose Vitamin A
  • Intravenous Vitamin C - there are now clinics all over the country that can do this.
  • Zinc Sulfate Solution or Lozenges
  • GSE Throat Spray
  • Monolaurin - increase the dosage
  • Broth: Chicken or Bone - add lots of garlic to it
  • Homeopathics
If confirmed influenza (especially the bad strain Influenza A H3N3), antiviral medication, which does come with severe side effects, are working. It may help reduce severity and duration by a day, especially if it's started immediately. However, if you have a history of mood or mental disorders, do not take it!

Key warning signs that you should go to the ER are fever that climbs to 103 F or higher, or trouble breathing while at rest or with slight exertion. In addition, the CDC advises that adults visit the emergency room if they experience pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion, or severe vomiting. These could all be signs of dangerous complications from flu. But unless you're very sick, it's best to avoid the emergency room-it's easy to pick up other infections there.

Take children to the emergency room if they are breathing fast or have difficulty breathing, bluish skin, fever with a rash, are drinking very little, or are unresponsive.

Flu vaccines and anti-viral drugs are not foolproof, and they can come with severe side-effects. Multi-drug preparations available over the counter are not very effective for influenza symptoms and can be dangerous if taken at a high dose. Excellent wellness habits are safe, effective, and will not only help the body protect itself from infection, but improve all other aspects of your health.

Pure Genomics Wellness Testing

Bonnie and Steve:It only takes a few simple steps to get individualized genetic nutritional support. Test your genome. We translate the results in a way you can understand. We target your individualized needs with nutritional support that can be easily implemented.

Pure Genomics helps the patient with:
  1. Reaffirmation for why existing patients should continue to adhere to their optimal diet and lifestyle. Genes are the deepest layer of individualization. When a patient is doing incredibly well despite horrible genetic deficiencies, it is a strong deterrent to fall off the wagon.
  2. Creates the last thrust of motivation for a patient who is having trouble adhering to their diet and lifestyle protocol.
  3. Provides incredible proof for prevention of family disease history. Connects the dots for many of our patients.
  4. Is a strong component for new patient screenings, especially for methylation, detoxification, antioxidant defense, weight management, metabolic health, memory and cognition, mental health, and essential fatty acid, vitamin A, and vitamin D absorption.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy
Steve: Traditional saunas emit direct heat. Far Infrared uses light to create heat. Far infrared run at much milder temperatures, but travels much deeper into the body, which is why you sweat more vigorously.

Far Infrared Therapy offers numerous therapeutic benefits, most importantly enhanced detoxification. Many of our clients use it to relieve painful joints, rev up metabolism, and remove buildup of heavy metals.

Far Infrared has shown to draw out 15 to 20% more heavy metals (i.e., mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic), hormone-disrupting chemicals, sulfuric acid, ammonia, uric-acid, and fat-soluble toxins than traditional saunas.

A recent study from Age and Ageing, showed that healthy subjects whose sauna use averaged 4 to 7 times per week were 66% less likely to develop dementia at 20-year follow-up than those who used a sauna once a week. In addition, they had a 65% risk reduction for Alzheimer's Disease.

Recent studies in JAMA Internal Medicine and American Journal of Hypertension found that increased frequency of sauna bathing reduced the risk of sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and all-cause mortality.
