ALERT!
Did you know that our favorite gluten-free crackers, Absolutely Gluten Free, just made an ingredient change to their formula? Don't worry, in this case, it is perfectly fine.

Unlike many other brands we had to stop recommending because of poor ingredient changes, Absolutely Gluten Free chose to replace potato flakes with tapioca maltodextrin.

We originally feared this was corn-based maltodextrin, but we received confirmation from the company that it is indeed tapioca. Phew! We wanted you to be aware in case you noticed the ingredient change on the box.

Have a happy, healthy day! Steve and Bonnie

Magnesium Reduces Most Prevalent Chronic Health Conditions
Bonnie and Steve: Studies from nine different countries totaling more than one million participants showed that higher dietary magnesium intake was associated with a reduced risk of stroke, heart failure, diabetes, and all-cause mortality.

In the study from the December issue of BMC Medicine, dietary magnesium intake (from food or supplements) was assessed during the long-term follow-ups ranging from 4 to 30 years.

A 100 mg-per-day increase in dietary magnesium intake was significantly associated with a 7%, 22%, 19%, and 10% reduction in the risk of stroke, heart failure, type 2 diabetes, and all-cause mortality, respectively.

The finding of this study has important public health implications, as nearly one out of every two Americans have inadequate intakes of magnesium. The inadequacy was even greater for some groups.

  • 70% of female and 80% of male equal to or more than 71 years old did not consume magnesium above the Estimated Average Requirements (EAR) of 400 mg. daily.
  • 69% of male and 89% of female age 14-18 did not consume magnesium above the EAR.

One group who DOES get enough magnesium? You, and those that read our newsletter. How could you not when we harp on taking magnesium at least once a month?

Magnesium supplementation is the easiest way to meet daily dietary intake.

SPMs and Osteoarthritis
Bonnie: There is strong evidence for the role of SPMs (specialized pro-resolving mediators) in resolving inflammation of the joints that is the hallmark of Osteoarthritis (OA). Receptors for SPMs are present in joints' synovial fluid.

Furthermore, the underlying cause of inflammation present in OA could be the failure of pro-resolving mediators to activate in the joints. Researchers consistently find low SPM levels in OA and Rheumatoid Arthritis patients.

The symptoms of osteoarthritis can be managed with healthy lifestyle behaviors. Getting regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating an anti-inflammatory diet may slow the progression of the disease. It cannot be reversed, though, so the goal of treatment is typically pain relief and maintenance of function. Adding SPMs to a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining a healthy weight, may help to ameliorate the symptoms of OA.
Genetics
Genetic Wellness Testing & Analysis
Bonnie and Steve:It only takes a few simple steps to get individualized genetic nutritional support. Test your genome. We translate the results in a way you can understand. We target your individualized needs with nutritional support that can be easily implemented.

Pure Genomics helps the patient with:
  1. Reaffirmation for why existing patients should continue to adhere to their optimal diet and lifestyle. Genes are the deepest layer of individualization. When a patient is doing incredibly well despite horrible genetic deficiencies, it is a strong deterrent to fall off the wagon.
  2. Creates the last thrust of motivation for a patient who is having trouble adhering to their diet and lifestyle protocol.
  3. Provides incredible proof for prevention of family disease history. Connects the dots for many of our patients.
  4. Is a strong component for new patient screenings, especially if they need activated forms of B-vitamins and specific phytochemicals.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy

Steve: Traditional saunas emit direct heat. Far Infrared uses light to create heat. Far infrared run at much milder temperatures, but travels much deeper into the body, which is why you sweat more vigorously.

Far Infrared Therapy offers numerous therapeutic benefits, most importantly enhanced detoxification. Many of our clients use it to relieve painful joints, rev up metabolism, and remove buildup of heavy metals.

Far Infrared has shown to draw out 15 to 20% more heavy metals (i.e., mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic), hormone-disrupting chemicals, sulfuric acid, ammonia, uric-acid, and fat-soluble toxins than traditional saunas.

A recent study from Age and Ageing, showed that healthy subjects whose sauna use averaged 4 to 7 times per week were 66% less likely to develop dementia at 20-year follow-up than those who used a sauna once a week. In addition, they had a 65% risk reduction for Alzheimer's Disease.

A recent study in JAMA Internal Medicine found that increased frequency of sauna bathing reduced the risk of sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and all-cause mortality.
