Dear Valued Subscriber,

Did you know that indoor air quality can adversely affect your health? For much of the country that spends the colder months indoors, please make sure that you cycle the indoor air in your home. If you do not have this capability, simply open a door or a window for just a few minutes to let fresh air in.

Make sure that you use the exhaust fan when you are cooking. Use green cleaning products so no chemical emissions can linger in the air. Adding a few green plants that specialize in recycling air would not hurt as long as they are well tolerated.

Announcement: Bonnie will be speaking about women's health at Heller Nature in Highland Park at 2PM on Sunday, February 23rd. For questions call 847-579-4554.

Have a happy, healthy week. Bonnie and Steve Minsky

Having the Right Supplement Plan Is Crucial.

stateofthebonnie

Did you know that you need to have your dietary supplement regimen evaluated frequently? Like with medication, as your body changes, so do your nutrient needs. Research is always evolving and new supplements seem to come to market on a daily basis.

Our philosophy has always been to tailor supplements to your individual needs. You wouldn't go to the store to change your prescriptions. So why do it for supplements? Just as a doctor and pharmacist are experts with medication, our expertise is in finding the safest, most effective, and least reactive supplements for you.

You need an evaluation if...

  • You have not had your supplements evaluated within the last 12 to 18 months.
  • You have made changes to your supplement regimen. Many clients who self-prescribe start to feel worse and wonder why. Often, the supplements they switched to have one or more ingredients that they do not tolerate, or are simply overdosing on nutrients.
  • Your health status has changed, either for worse or for better.
  • You listened to Dr. Oz and went out to buy his top 5 weight management supplements. While partially tongue-in-cheek, many people do this. Dr. Oz is not making recommendations for your individual needs and there can be serious consequences from following one-size-fits-all advice like this.

Call at 847-498-3422 or email at nutrocon@aol.com for an evaluation.

Zinc Is Not a Pathogen's Meal of Choice.
Shows Mettle Against Common Cold and Pneumonia

Handwashing and zinc are the two best options for prevention of the common cold, according to a review in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).

Based upon available evidence, researchers concluded that handwashing, as well as alcohol disinfectants and gloves, is likely effective.

Children who took 10 or 15 mg of zinc sulfate daily had lower rates of colds and fewer absences from school due to colds. The authors suggest that zinc most likely works for adults as well.

While they also found evidence that probiotics may help prevent colds, there were too many combinations and strains to make a definitive conclusion.

In addition, researchers in an upcoming study in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition evaluated the effect of zinc given with standard antimicrobial treatment on the duration of respiratory signs in children with severe pneumonia. Zinc status and pathogens were assessed.

They found that higher zinc status was associated with reduced time to resolution of respiratory symptoms. The results suggest the need for prevention of chronic zinc deficiency and improvement of general nutritional status.

Important Announcement
UAS Labs DDS Aciodphilus and DDS Plus Have Changed!

Steve: UAS Labs changed its name to UAS Life Sciences.

In addition, they changed the names, sizes, and doses of their product line. Here's what you need to know:

  • DDS Plus is now UP4 Daily.
  • The probiotic strains and inactive ingredients are exactly the same.
  • The potency of both formulas now contain 5 billion units per cap, up from 2.5 billion. If you took two capsules, you will only take one now. For those who took one capsule, stay with one capsule. The dose increase is very small but beneficial!
