Dear Valued Subscriber,

Did you know that the FDA is on the verge of approving two sublingual allergy drops, one for ragweed and one for grass pollen? We have been telling you for years how effective the drops have been in Europe. Many of our clients, as well as Steve's kids, have been taking the drops off-label with great success.

With sublingual drops (under the tongue), you don't have to go to the allergists office for shots and can develop immunity from the comfort of your own home. Soon, drops will be available for most environmental allergens and foods.

Have a happy, healthy week. Bonnie and Steve Minsky

Vitamin D Deficiency Ups Allergy, Asthma
Allergists See the Light.

The upcoming American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology 2014 meeting will feature multiple presentations on vitamin D, with 5 seminars providing an overview of the nutrient's role in allergies and asthma.

In addition, results will be presented from 12 studies that explore correlations between vitamin D and asthma in children, the elderly, and various ethnic groups; dust-induced bone loss; urticaria; atopic dermatitis; and outdoor allergens.

The growing evidence to suggest that low vitamin D is associated with asthma prevalence and severity is almost undeniable and the researchers suggest there is enough information for clinicians to act.

Vitamin D is not the only nutritional strategy to be explored at the meeting. Other researchers will present studies on the potential benefits of phytoestrogens and omega-3 fatty acids.

Analyzing patients' nutritional deficiencies fits into a larger theme at the meeting - individualized medicine.

Bonnie: Individualized medicine: what a novel idea! This month, we are presenting to our NCI Well Connect subscribers a four-part series on the latest recommendations for allergy, intolerance, and asthma. This is of particular importance because spring allergy season is right around the corner. As our climate becomes more extreme, adult-onset allergy and intolerance incidents rise each year.

Having the Right Supplement Plan is Crucial

stateofthebonnie

Did you know that you need to have your dietary supplement regimen evaluated frequently? Like with medication, as your body changes, so do your nutrient needs. Research is always evolving and new supplements seem to come to market on a daily basis.

Our philosophy has always been to tailor supplements to your individual needs. You wouldn't go to the store to change your prescriptions. So why do it for supplements? Just as a doctor and pharmacist are experts with medication, our expertise is in finding the safest, most effective, and least reactive supplements for you.

You need an evaluation if...

  • You have not had your supplements evaluated within the last 12 to 18 months.
  • You have made changes to your supplement regimen. Many clients who self-prescribe start to feel worse and wonder why. Often, the supplements they switched to have one or more ingredients that they do not tolerate, or are simply overdosing on nutrients.
  • Your health status has changed, either for worse or for better.
  • You listened to Dr. Oz and went out to buy his top 5 weight management supplements. While partially tongue-in-cheek, many people do this. Dr. Oz is not making recommendations for your individual needs and there can be serious consequences from following one-size-fits-all advice like this.

Call at 847-498-3422 or email at nutrocon@aol.com for an evaluation.

Has it been a while since your last visit? Have you had major trauma or changes in your life that have altered your optimal balance? Or, do you just feel there is one something missing from you feeling ideal? Chances are that you are due for a wellness update with Bonnie.

If you have had bloodwork within the last 6-8 months, bring a copy to your appointment. Be ready to discuss any diet, supplement, medication, health status, and major life changes since your last visit.
