Double Sale Day!
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that anticholinergic drugs that are commonly prescribed as antidepressants or for treating incontinence are linked with an increased risk of dementia, even when taken 20 years before cognitive impairment is diagnosed?

Results from a study in last week's BMJ, including more than 40,000 patients with dementia, showed a significant correlation between use of anticholinergic drugs and dementia, but only for certain types of this class of drugs.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking one of these medications, especially if you have, or have a family history of, memory loss or cognition issues.

PPIs, Statins, and now Anticholinergics? How many classes of meds do we need to study to see that many of them do as much harm as good!

As long as we are on the topic of meds, this week's eNews segment about Big Pharma, written by a very well respected MD, is a must-read! See below.

For today only, you can order all sale items from April and May. Starting tomorrow, only May sale items will be available. See below.

Did you know that if you have an HSA or FSA debit/credit card, you can use it at Nutritional Concepts? While we cannot guarantee it because every account is different, we are able to process most HSA or FSA credit card transactions.

Metagenics sent a memo alerting us of a problem customers have had purchasing counterfeit and adulterated products from third party sources on the Internet. Pure Encapsulations alerted us to similar occurrences with their products. Overheated products, expired products, labels removed, QR codes removed, and label tampering are all major issues. Read the memo here.

We are not a third party vendor. We are an authorized vendor for Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations.

Have a happy, healthy day! Steve and Bonnie

Gestational Diabetes Misdiagnosis
Bonnie and Steve: If you are thinking about having children, or you have family and friends in their fertility years, please read and pass along. We cannot begin to imagine how many cases of gestational diabetes have been misdiagnosed because of the following.

As the graphic implies, gestational diabetes can be a major issue for the mother and fetus. However, the way it is presently diagnosed is, shall we say, not very thorough.

Gestational diabetes is discovered when the patient fails an oral glucose challenge. If after ingesting the sugary solution, blood sugar levels spike beyond normal, doctors often diagnose gestational diabetes. Then, the pregnant woman must track her blood sugar numerous times per day, not to mention the stress that comes with thinking you may be harming your unborn child.

Tragically, what we have seen countless times over the decades, even two client cases just over the last two weeks, is that many of these cases are misdiagnosed.

The oral sugar solution is made from dextrose, a corn sugar. For those who are intolerant to corn, this can create an artificial spike in blood sugar.

Thank goodness that in our recent client cases, both reached out to us before embarking on a treatment plan.

Both of these clients were corn intolerant. So we asked that their doctors retest them with a corn-free oral sugar solution. Our first option is maple syrup, but if one os tree pollen allergic, then we recommend organic agave syrup.

When these clients retested with the corn-free solution, their blood sugar levels were perfectly normal!

We have had dozens of cases like this over three decades, including several within our own family.

Please alert anyone you know who does not tolerate corn and is thinking about getting pregnant to test with maple syrup or agave!

What Patients Love About Chiropractic
Dr. Schuster: Have you ever wondered what patients love about Chiropractic? A 2012 National Health Interview Survey revealed some interesting reasons.

The survey participants said the reason they visit a chiropractor is:
  • For General Wellness
  • To Improve Energy
  • To Improve Athletic or Sports Performance
  • To Improve Immune Function
  • To Improve Memory or Concentration
The participants also said the benefits of chiropractic are:
  • Improve Overall Health or Feel Better
  • Help Sleep Better
  • Help Reduce Stress or Relax
  • Make it Easier to Cope with Health Problems
  • Give a Sense of Control Over One's Own Health
  • Help Feel Better Emotionally
  • Improve Attendance at Job or School
  • Improve Relationships With Others
Participants emphasized valuing their Chiropractor as a source of information and guidance, being motivated to "exercise more regularly" and "eat healthier". Also noted was that Chiropractic is natural, focuses on the whole person, treats the cause and not just the symptoms and combined with Medical treatment would be helpful. What reasons do you love Chiropractic?

I Love Chiropractic and the way I feel during and after getting adjusted. My preference is to help the incredible healing processes of the body through specific hands on care combined with diet, vitamins, homeopathy, herbal supplements, exercise, being outside, fulfilling my creative side and utilizing stress management techniques. I personally use these modalities first and then if needed would add medication and or surgery as sometimes you need the best of both worlds.
