Double Sale Day
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that last week the media was all over findings by the US Poison Control Centers saying there was an uptick in calls about dietary supplements from 2005 to 2012? Yes, there were an uptick in calls. But not for the reason the media is using to sensationalize the report.

The uptick is unintentional. Kids under six are getting into supplements and accidentallypoisoning themselves. Now that we have settled that, here is what the media did not suggest: a solution.

If you have young children, you must treat your supplements as you would medication. Keep them out of reach! And if I was a supplement manufacturer, as annoying as it may be, I would put child safety caps on all supplements as a preventive measure.

DOUBLE SALE DAY!
Today is the last day to order July sale items. August sale items are also available today to order.

ADULTERATED, EXPIRED METAGENICS AND PURE ENCAPSULATIONS SUPPLEMENTS BOUGHT ON THE INTERNET
Metagenics sent a memo alerting us of a problem customers have had purchasing counterfeit and adulterated products from third party sources on the Internet. Pure Encapsulations alerted us to similar occurrences with their products. Overheated products, expired products, labels removed, QR codes removed, and label tampering are all major issues. Read the memo here.

We are not a third party vendor. We are an authorized vendor for Metagenics and Pure Encapsulations.

Have a happy, healthy day! Steve and Bonnie

Memory Loss Misdiagnosis
Bonnie and Steve: If you know anyone who has recently been diagnosed with a memory loss-related disorder, please pass this along.

We have encountered numerous clients who have come to us with a diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer's, only to really be suffering from symptoms related to overmedication.

If you take any class of medication that is an "anti", such as antihistamines, antidepressants, antipsychotics, antibiotics, antispasmodics, or antihypertensives, they affect acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved with memory and learning. When you're low in acetylcholine, you can become forgetful, you can't concentrate, or think of the right word.

Avoiding "anti" is a good rule of thumb for meds, but the list of meds that can create memory loss misdiagnoses is much longer.

This is a crucial issue as most Americans over 65 take five or more medications. Americans over 75 take on average 10 or more medications!

The risk for memory issues is greater the more meds you take. Research does not existregarding how multiple meds contraindicate with each other and what side effects are created.

There is an intelligent way to wean off meds. Always notify your doctor and find a plan that works for you. You owe it to yourself and your family/friends to see if medication is contributing, or is the culprit, for memory loss.
Genetics
Genetic Wellness Testing & Analysis
Cognition & Mental Health - All New!

Bonnie and Steve:It only takes a few simple steps to get individualized genetic nutritional support. Test your genome. We translate the results in a way you can understand. We target your individualized needs with nutritional support that can be easily implemented.

Pure Genomics helps the patient with:
  1. Reaffirmation for why existing patients should continue to adhere to their optimal diet and lifestyle. Genes are the deepest layer of individualization. When a patient is doing incredibly well despite horrible genetic deficiencies, it is a strong deterrent to fall off the wagon.
  2. Creates the last thrust of motivation for a patient who is having trouble adhering to their diet and lifestyle protocol.
  3. Provides incredible proof for prevention of family disease history. Connects the dots for many of our patients.
  4. Is a strong component for new patient screenings, especially for methylation, detoxification, antioxidant defense, weight management, metabolic health, memory and cognition, mental health, and essential fatty acid, vitamin A, and vitamin D absorption.

SPMs and Osteoarthritis
Bonnie: There is strong evidence for the role of SPMs (specialized pro-resolving mediators) in resolving inflammation of the joints that is the hallmark of Osteoarthritis (OA). Receptors for SPMs are present in joints' synovial fluid.

Furthermore, the underlying cause of inflammation present in OA could be the failure of pro-resolving mediators to activate in the joints. Researchers consistently find low SPM levels in OA and Rheumatoid Arthritis patients.

The symptoms of osteoarthritis can be managed with healthy lifestyle behaviors. Getting regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating an anti-inflammatory diet may slow the progression of the disease. It cannot be reversed, though, so the goal of treatment is typically pain relief and maintenance of function. Adding SPMs to a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining a healthy weight, may help to ameliorate the symptoms of OA.
