Question #1:
Dannon's Activia and other probiotic yogurt brands are being marketed all over the place. Are they better than your average plain yogurt?
Answer #1:
No. In fact, Dannon is being sued by the Federal Trade Commission for deceptive advertising in the case of Activia. The company is making false health claims about the product. The ingredients include sugars and/or artificial sweeteners. Stick with plain old yogurt, but do not count on either type to get a significant probiotic dose.
Question #2:
Do you have any nutritional recommendations for someone with vertigo?
Answer #2:
I really do not feel comfortable recommending specific supplements unless I counsel an individual and know their health/nutrition/medical histories. However, items that have been known to increase vertigo symptoms are:
-artificial colors
-artificial preservatives (nitrates/nitrites)
-sugar substitutes (especially aspartame/nutrasweet)
-heavy sugar intake
-certain medications
Nutrients known to decrease vertigo symptoms are:
B-6 (25-50 mg)
B-12 (200-500mcg)
Magnesium (250-400 mg)
Liquid Cod Liver Oil (1-2 tsp.)
Have a happy, healthy day.
