Healthy Weight Is Irrelevant If...

From eNewsletter 2/4/2019

DID YOU KNOW that new research in Menopause states that vitamin D3 [25(OH)D] levels are linked with lower glucose levels, and therefore lowers risk of developing type 2 diabetes?

Healthy Weight Is Irrelevant If You Are Sedentary

Steve and Bonnie: Adults with a healthy weight but a sedentary lifestyle have the same risk for heart attacks or strokes as people who are overweight, a recent study in American Journal of Cardiology suggests.

Researchers found that for normal-weight individuals who sat around most of the time and got very little exercise, their risk of serious cardiac events wasn't significantly different from that of overweight people.

This matters especially for older persons because they may get a false sense of security by just looking at the number on the scale. When you're older, it is much easier to lose lean muscle mass and cardiorespiratory fitness.

Unfortunately, many of us have sedentary jobs, so it is important to find time for moderate to vigorous exercise. Small things like walking stairs, adding in a brief walk, or doing an exercise snack three times daily, are all helpful.

Weight Should Come Off Naturally

Losing body mass quicker won't help when it comes to overall health, according to new research in Journal of Obesity. People who lose body mass quicker versus those who lost it slowly received no additional cardiovascular or diabetes benefits.

The amount of body mass lost is what was most important in the study. Individuals who lost body mass more than one to two pounds per week had a slightly higher risk for gallstones.

We have always believed that when you are put on the optimal wellness plan, and you adhere to it fully, you will eventually settle at your optimal weight. While there may be detours along the way, having patience, focus, and perseverance will get you where you want to go!
